4 Easy Eco-friendly habits to start your eco-conscious journey

Eco-conscious Lifestyle - My Four Comittments

While I am a rookie at the eco-friendly lifestyle I have just moved out of home and have control over what I consume and where I consume it. As I am a student and living with family I have some restriction but am trying to make progressive steps to living a eco-conscious lifestyle. Here are my four comittments.
  1. Eco-friendly shopping- Now that I have moved out of home I have come to the conclusion I need to purchase some of my own reusable shopping bags. Not entirely for the supermarket as I do not go weekly but for when I am out and about running daily errands. I am making a effort to always keep a reusable bag with me in my handbag so if I go for some retail therapy, need to do some errands or go to the supermarket for supplies I can say "no thanks" to the plastic bag. I got mine from wish but you can also get crochet ones from OhNatural Nz if you live in New Zealand and internationally or even the op shop and supermarkets.
  2. Homemade snacks- I used to buy bliss balls and musili bars for my weekly uni snacks but as well as being costly they all come in individually wrapped packets. When I can I bring nuts and fruit in a reusable container or make my own Tahini balls to take to uni.
  3. Conscious coffee drinking- I own a eco-cup but rarely use it when I am purchasing a coffee out. I buy at least two coffees a week at university so my goal it to keep it in my bag and wip it out. Some places will also give you a discount-bonus!!!
  4. Plastic container- I will get lunch out maybe once a week and most of the time it is salad, soup or sushi. The other day I realised that my local sushi joint gives discounts for bringing your own container which made me think. At home I recycle and compost, at uni I recycle but not while out in the city. If I have to use a plastic container I will wash and take it home to recycle. A humble effort is just as powerful as extreme action but my next goal is to carry a set of cutlery and a reusable container.
